Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently made his OTT debut with Netflix's show, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is known for his larger-than-life films, is currently enjoying the success of his recently released series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The show stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal Mehta, and Taha Shah Badussha, among others, and has become the talk of the town since its release. Recently, in an interview, the filmmaker discussed his favorite comedy film and also revealed that rather than slapstick, he enjoys intelligent films.
When Bhansali was in conversation with Pinkvilla, he revealed that actor Mehmood’s 1974 movie Do Phool is one of his favorites. He also gave an example of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan and said, “They’re very funny, witty and sharp. There’s humor in every line that they can make you laugh. So, that kind of humor which has got intelligence and has got a certain amount of wit about it."
Additionally, SLB recalled the time when Salman Khan told him something about his films. He revealed that the actor once told him that if a lot of people are sitting together in the Gaiety Galaxy and watching his film, they will unanimously say, 'hmmh'. "That’s the amount of laughter you give in your film," he added.
Meanwhile, Bhansali and Salman Khan recently hinted at their patch-up after their fallout in 2019. Salman was seen gracing the celeb premiere of Heeramandi and was seen smiling and posing for the paps.
For the uninitiated, Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced a big project, Inshallah in 2019. This would mark their reunion after 12 long years. The film also had Alia Bhatt as the female lead. However, the project was then shelved due to creative differences.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is set in pre-Independence India and is based on the lives of courtesans in the oldest red-light district of Lahore's Heeramandi. The show, helmed by the ace filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has been streaming on Netflix since May 1, 2024.
