We already know Shah Rukh Khan has an impressive lineup of upcoming films, ranging from Siddharth Anand's espionage thriller Pathan to South filmmaker Atlee's action-packed, as-yet-untitled drama and Rajkumar Hirani's social comedy. The superstar, who is rumoured to have a dual role in Atlee's upcoming film and has taken a five-month hiatus, is set to resume filming today (February 21) at Mumbai's Film City Studios.
Speaking about the same, a source told Pinkvilla that Atlee's film is one of the most anticipated films of the year. A massive set has been erected in Film City Studios in Goregaon, Mumbai, where Atlee, Shah Rukh, Nayanthara, and Sanya Malhotra will begin filming key action and dramatic scenes for the film starting today. After a five-month break, SRK will begin filming for Atlee. After that, the superstar will fly to Spain for Pathan so it'll be a short schedule. The stylized actioner began filming on September 21 of last year in Pune, with Shah Rukh and Nayanthara starring in portions.
The 10-day filming was supposed to be followed by an elaborate action sequence in the first week of October at the BD Petit Parsee General Hospital in Cumballa Hill, but the actor was unable to shoot owing to personal issues.
SRK, however, did not want the shoot to be called off on his account, so it continued in South Mumbai with Nayanthara and Sunil Grover. In this week-long Mumbai schedule, Shah Rukh will also finish some hospital scenes. Apart from Mumbai, the action-packed entertainer's succeeding schedules will be shot in Dubai and other locales in India.
Shah Rukh Khan plays both a father and a son in Atlee's film, which is reportedly produced by Red Chillies Entertainment.
According to rumours, Shah Rukh Khan would reprise his dual character from Duplicate and Don in Atlee's film, but with a twist. It will concentrate on the relationship between a father and his son, and how their love is complicated by their respective careers. While one of Shah Rukh's characters is a gangster, the other is his father, a senior RAW agent on a mission to apprehend him. The plot is similar to Ramesh Sippy's Shakti (1982), in which a former police commissioner (Dilip Kumar) pursues his son, a mobster (Amitabh Bachchan). However, SRK plays both father and son in Atlee's film, which is a very different scenario. For his father's portrayal, Shah Rukh will wear prosthetics.
The filming will begin in mid-2021, depending on when Pathan is finished. Shah Rukh Khan will be using prosthetics, similar to what Kamal Haasan did in Indian (1996), in which he portrayed both father and son and donned a prosthetic mask developed by Michael Westmore and Michael Jones for the 70-year-old father's role.
Following that, SRK will head to Spain for his Pathan shoot. The source shared that Shah Rukh commenced shooting with Siddharth Anand's Pathan in December last year. He'll start shooting in Mumbai at the end of February, after finishing his second schedule for Atlee's film, and then fly to Spain for the final Pathan shoot, which will begin in the first week of March.
