Taapsee Pannu-starrer, Shabaash Mithu, will be released in theatres on July 15. Now, the latest we learn is that this sports drama, based on the life of Mithali Raj, former Test and ODI captain of India women’s national cricket team, will stream on Netflix, once the film completes its theatrical run. Directed by Srijit Mukherji and written by Priya Aven, Shabaash Mithu is produced by Viacom18 Studios.

In an interview with an English daily, Srijit said this one wouldn't be a typical underdog story ending in a victory. "Many follow the same underdog-struggle-victory template. We avoided that beat at several points."

Initially, it was said that Shabaash Mithu would be directed by Rahul Dholakia, best known for making movies like Raees, Lamhaa and Parzania. But he had to quit the project, owing to conflicts in the shooting schedule.

It looks like Taapsee Pannu feels nervous about Shabaash Mithu, as she's getting a theatrical release after two years. "I think if you don’t get nervous and those butterflies, it means you’ve stopped caring for such things. So in a way, I am happy. That fear of Friday is slowly making its presence felt again," she told Filmfare.

When asked why Mithali Raj gave a go-ahead for a film based on her life; she said, she wanted everyone to know not just her struggles, but also the journey of Indian women’s cricket. "Back in the Nineties, if a young girl was interested in taking up the sport, they had to face several challenges. The evolution of women’s cricket from then to now has been phenomenal."

Cricket has always been Srijit's first love and this film brings him back to his first love. "I can't wait to see how the audience would react to my film. The entire script was written by who shadowed Mithali for a long time and it was approved by Mithali herself. There are, of course, dramatic diversions and necessary fictionalisation and creative liberties have been taken," Srijit adds.

Meanwhile, Taapsee has a handful of films in her kitty, including Jana Gana Mana (Tamil), Looop Lapeta (Hindi), Dobaaraa (Hindi), Mishan Impossible (Telugu), Blurr (Hindi), and so on.

Notably, the makers have shot Shabaash Mithu at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in London.
