Mithali, Taapsee Pannu and Srijit Mukherji start their film promotion from the iconic stadium in Kolkata.
Srijit Mukherji’s much-anticipated film Shabaash Mithu is all set to hit the theatre on July 15. Based on the life of iconic cricketer and Indian captain Mithali Raj, the film features Taapsee Pannu in the lead. The director, actress and cricketing legend came to Kolkata on July 9 to promote the film. The team met the press at Eden Gardens where they also posed for the photographers,
On the visit, legendary cricketer Mithali said, “Eden Gardens is one of the warmest homes of cricket and it is my absolute pleasure to be here. Playing here has been an honour and it feels humbling to be here today for Shabaash Mithu.” The film portrays 20 years of Mithali’s life and career.
Power-house performer, Taapsee added, “It feels almost surreal to kick off our city trail from Eden Gardens, Kolkata. I have watched many matches here but never imagined that I would be standing here for the promotion of a film. It’s a different feeling to know and understand the history and importance of this space.”
Elaborating on her reason for saying yes to the offer, Taapsee said, “There will not be another film on Mithali Raj. I am privileged, proud and lucky to be doing this character which will go down in history.” While Mithali was busy at her camps during the shooting, coach Nooshin Al Khadeer trained Taapsee for her performance. Taapsee also confessed that she wanted to perfect every shot. “I told Srijit sir, ‘You have the mic. Don’t say ok until the shot is perfect’,” she said.
Meanwhile, the filmmaker and a true cricket lover, Srijit, was overjoyed. “I feel it is only apt to start this innings from my home ground. It's heartwarming and an honour.”
Produced by Viacom18 Studios, Shabaash Mithu releases on July 15.
