Shaakuntalam box office: Samantha's film begins on a dull note; here's the day-one collection

Samantha's Shaakuntalam opens low on day one worldwide. The day two occupancy is also low.

Samantha has gone through blood and sweat for her latest release Shaakuntalam. The period drama directed by Gunasekhar was released yesterday India wide with a decent buzz. Samantha too promoted the film in her own way but the dull word of mouth has hampered the film's openings at the box office India wide as per the trade.

As per the latest box office update, Shaakuntalam has made only 4.5 crores gross on day one worldwide. These are quite low figures as Samantha's last release, Yashoda made close to seven crores on day one. When it comes to the Telugu states, the film had a bad opening as it made only 1 crore 10 lakhs share on day one.

As the word of mouth is bad, the occupancy on day two is also not that great. Upon this, the IPL matches are giving the audience great entertainment these days. The period drama also opened on a very dull note in the northern belt and in the US as not many know that such a film called Shaakuntalam even came out.

Samantha, on the other hand, has performed beautifully. She is the only solace of the film and is attracting her fans to the theaters. Dil Raju has released Shaakuntalam in several areas and his idea of holding special premieres a day before has also backfired badly as mixed talk came out early and disappointed the fans. Only time will tell how the Samantha starrer will fare in the days to come.
