Sexy Beasts season 2 trailer: The masked dating reality game gets weird but that is the point!

The second season of the show will premiere on Netflix on October 7.

The British reality television dating game show, Sexy Beasts which ran its first season from February 14 2014 to September 9 of the same year, is back with a beastlier version with its season 2.

Six singletons will dress up in frankly weird yet elaborate costumes to transform visually into monsters, animals, and mythical creatures in what is an odd take on the date night outfit so that they can be only chosen for who they really are. The show has masked contestants called Sexy Beasts, in each of the six episodes, vying for the affection of one masked individual who can be a man or a woman. Upon being cast out after the dates, the masked contestants will uncover the mask to show their real identity as gleaned from short interviews.

“This could be the beginning of an epic love story,” says a female voice at the beginning of the trailer as a tiger-face contestant poses for a selfie with a monster-face contestant. While it ‘could be a disaster,’ says someone else (presumably a contestant), another voice pipes in, saying, ‘either works for us.’

The trailer has enough glimpses of candid conversations between two people who are looking for love, sieving through the superficialities and pretensions. There’s a bunny face, an icky green dinosaur face and more, that are all things weirder, but as is said towards the end of the trailer, ‘but that is the point of the entire show,’ and so be it!

The wacky concept of donning prosthetics to turn into animals and mythical creatures to find love and actually fall in love with the person within and not the external appearance did not quite win the favour of the critics in the first season. The show earned descriptions such as ‘entertaining’, ‘shallow’ etc. But on the other hand, the first season had a successful run and was adapted in America, Germany and Korea. And comedian Rob Delaney gave the voiceover for the first season of the show that was released earlier this year on Netflix. Simon Welton and Sam Campbell are among the executive producers and directors of the show. Sarah Clarke has produced the show.
