The upcoming series will be executive produced by Don Cheadle and Steven Soderbergh
HBO Max’s latest series will be based on one of the first black millionaires to make it big on Wall Street, Jeremiah Hamilton. The series, titled The Other Hamilton, will be executive produced by Don Cheadle and Steven Soderbergh.
According to a report in Variety, writers and executive producers from popular shows have been roped in to work on the upcoming series. They include Carlos Foglia, Ashley Nicole Black and Keith Josef Adkins.
Cheadle and Soderbergh will produce the series under their production banner, This Radicle Act Productions. The show will mark the duo’s most recent collaboration together. They had previously worked together on the films Ocean's Eleven(2001), Out of Sight(1998) and Traffic (2000), all of which were directed by Soderbergh. They last worked together on the 2021 HBO Max film, No Sudden Move, which also featured Jon Hamm,Brendan Fraser, Kieran Culkin and Ray Liotta.
The Other Hamilton is part of a three year deal Soderbergh signed with HBO and HBO Max in 2020. No Sudden Move and the filmmaker’s upcoming project Kimi is also a part of the deal.
The upcoming show will be based on the 2015 book Prince of Darkness written by Shane White. The book chronicles the rise of the titular financial broker from a poor Haitian immigrant to a millionaire in the 1800s through the use of cunning, and questionable tactics. His manipulative methods, which often came at huge losses for his clients, earned him the nickname of The Prince of Darkness. Despite the massive wealth Hamilton accrued during his lifetime, he was still subject to instances of racism in the dominantly white financial world of the United States.
