Sengalam, the political thriller starring Kalaiyarasan and Vani Bhojan in the lead is all set to drop on ZEE on March 24. The web series is helmed by SR Prabhakaran of Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal and Sundarapandian fame. The star cast includes Sharath Lohitashwa, Viji Bhairavi Chandrasekar, Shaji Nivekas, Manasa Radhakrishnan, Vela Ramamoorthy, Bagavathi Perumal, Muthu Kumar, Daniel Anne Pope, Mathew Verghese, Arjai, Pawan, Prem, Gajaraj and Pooja Ramchandran to name a few.
Going by the trailer, the political drama series is set against the backdrop of Virudhunagar and is a twisted tale about three brothers who are on a mission to take revenge against powerful people. The story runs parallelly in two different timelines where one influential family has held the position of Chairman until recently. Political and mind games, a thirst for power, calculative moves and lots of twists and turns for the crux of the story. Sivagnanam is looking for a candidate to take on the mantle of the chairman of the town after his son's death, while Rayar and his brothers are on a killing spree. But what happens when families of Rayar and Sivagnanam cross each other's paths. The trailer also shows some heavy-duty action scenes, revenge spree and bloodshed.
The makers are billing Sengalam as the first ever political web series in Tamil. The editing is by Biju V Don Bosco and music for the series is by Dharan. Cinematography is handled by Vetrivel Mahendran. The series has been bankrolled by Capture Can Pictures.
While Kalaiyarasan was last seen in Pettaikaali as a Jallikattu bull tamer on Aha Tamil, Vani Bhojan was part of Tamil Rockers on Sony LIV. It would be interesting to see the duo come together for this web series.
It was only recently that ZEE dropped its social drama Ayali, a drama which went on to win accolades from everyone. The plot revolves around a teenager Tamizh Selvi, who battles the age-old traditions and the regressive practices in the repressive hamlets of Veerapannai to fulfill her ambition of becoming a doctor. The show was written and directed by Muthukumar and the star cast included Abi Nakshatra, Anumol, Linga and Singampuli to name a few. Bagavathi Perumal, Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli and Smruthio Venkat made guest appearances on the show.
