Starring GV Prakash and Gautham Menon, Selfie marks the debut project of the director
Mathi Maaran, who has been working with Vetrimaaran in his films, is set to make his directorial debut with Selfie. Starring GV Prakash and Gautham Vasudev Menon, the movie is about the college admission ring and people making profits out of it.
Speaking about the film, the director has now said that he hopes people watch the film before they start applying for college.
During an interaction with the Times of India, he said that Tamil Nadu is a model state when it comes to education and has its social justice and bilingual policies playing an important role in this.
"At the same time, there is an evil side to it as this has led to the creation of a mafia in the education sector. I hope this film becomes a discussion point for society," he said.
The director had earlier confirmed that he was inspired to write the story for the film after someone he knew bought a car in the second year of college after brokering college seats.
Mathi Maaran also talked about the film’s title and explained that it was more than just a commercial ploy, and is rather a metaphor, as the film is about the self-introspection of a college boy.
The movie has GV Prakash playing a college student who works as a college admission broker, while Gautham Menon plays the antagonist in the film. Varsha Bollamma plays the female lead in the movie, which has been produced by D Sabareesh under the DG Film Company.
The film, which marks Maaran’s directorial debut, is set to hit theatres on April 1.
