The long-delayed project of director Seenu Ramasamy, Maamanithan, finally released in theatres on June 24 amid low expectations. The family drama, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, opened to average response among critics and the audience. The movie is now gearing up for its digital premiere.
Gayathrie, Guru Somasundaram, KPAC Lalitha, Jewel Mary, Anikha, Ganja Karuppu and Shaji Chen among others essayed pivotal characters in the project which was bankrolled by Yuvan Shankar Raja's production house. Yuvan, along with Ilaiyaraaja, has scored music for the film. This was the first time the father-son duo joined hands for a project.
Seenu has now taken to Twitter to inform that aha Tamil has bagged theatrical rights of the movie, though the OTT release date is yet to be finalized. He also requested everyone to watch Maamanithan once and let him know their opinion on the film.
The shooting of Maamanithan commenced in Theni in 2018 and was wrapped up in 2019. The movie's story revolves around a family man who faces several struggles after a decision he took while dealing with a land property goes haywire.
M Sukumar and Sreekar Prasad have handled cinematography and editing respectively for the movie which has art direction by Vijay Thennarasu and lyrics penned jointly by Vijay and Karunakaran. Producer-turned-actor RK Suresh had bagged theatrical rights of the project which marked the fourth collaboration of Vijay Sethupathi and Seenu Ramasamy after Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, Idam Porul Yaeval and Dharma Durai.
Seenu's next project, Idi Muzhakkam, which has GV Prakash playing the lead, is expected to release later this year. Billed as an action flick, the film is based on a few real incidents which happened in Madurai a few years ago.
