Sayantika Banerjee contested as the TMC candidate from Bankura in the 2021 assembly election, but she lost. But she did not give up. She contested in the Baranagar by-election in 2024 and became an MLA, defeating the BJP’s Sajal Ghosh.

However, some complications took place even after her victory. She did not want to take the oath in the Governor’s Palace. The problem will soon be resolved. But Sayantika’s fans were worried after seeing her social media photos. The newly elected MLA shared a photo of her swollen feet.

Why did this happen? Sayantika fought a tough battle for two months. She went to people’s houses asking for votes. She wanted to remind people about her hard work through her photo. On the one-month completion of her victory, Sayantika shared the post, a collage of two photos. One shows her swollen feet and the other shows her smilingly holding her winning certificate. The caption was ‘It wasn’t luck: It was sheer hard work’. The feet were swollen due to the extreme labor she had to give while campaigning.

Sayantika told the media, “My feet got swollen because I walked so much. No pain, no gain. Many people think that an actress can’t do people’s work. But I had to fight to become a Baranagar girl.”

Sayantika and Bhagabangola’s MLA Rayat Hossain could not yet take the oath even a month after their victory. The Governor invited both of them to take the oath in his Palace on June 26, but they wished to do it in the Assembly House. That triggered a conflict between the state government and the Governor. The two MLAs sat on a dharna under the Ambedkar statue also. Raj Bhavan sources said on Thursday that the Governor assigned the Deputy Speaker Asish Banerjee to make the two MLAs take oath. The Speaker said that he hadn’t yet received any information.
