Savi, starring Divya Khossla Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Rane, fared better than expected
Divya Khossla Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Rane’s Savi released in theatres alongside Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor’s Mr. and Mrs. Mahi. Thus, Savi had huge competition. However, it looks like the movie also benefitted slightly from Cinema Lover’s Day, for it earned a little above what were the estimated opening day collections.
Savi minted under Rs. 2 crores. The movie opened at Rs. 1.75 crores. This is much higher than the expected Box Office collections of Rs. 50 lakhs. Sure enough, like many movies, Savi also benefitted from the Cinema Lover’s Day offer. For the uninitiated, the ticket prices were under Rs. 100 on Friday, May 31.
Savi earned better than what Manoj Bajpayee’s Bhaiyyaji did on its opening day. The movie had earned Rs. 1.35 crores on its first day of release.
While Savi’s songs created a buzz on social media, the movie has to connect with people at large and mint enough over the weekend to be able to sustain at the Box Office. Unlike Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, though, this one might not touch double digits by the end of the weekend.
The Abhinay Deo directorial is the Hindi adaptation of the French film, Pour Elle (2008). Savi tells the tale of Savitri and Satyavan. She attempts to jailbreak her husband from a high-security prison in England.
Apart from Mr. and Mrs. Mahi and Savi, Rajkummar’s Srikanth is also working at the Box Office. The movie has earned over Rs. 40 crores already and is expected to touch Rs. 50 crores, if not cross it, by the end of the weekend. It is 15 days since the movie’s release.
Among the upcoming releases, Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion and Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy Munjya will release in theatres soon. They are likely to impact the Box Office collections for other movies, but one can only wait and watch what happens.
