Soubin Shahir’s Djinn and Lukman Avaran’s Saudi Vellakka are this week’s latest Malayalam releases
The first Malayalam releases of 2023 are all set to hit theatres as well as drop on major OTT platforms. While this week won’t have too many superstar-laden releases, the movies, however, do promise to cater audiences of various age groups as well as fans of different genres such as crime thrillers, social dramas and entertainers.
Tharun Moorthy’s much acclaimed Saudi Vellakka, which had a 35-day run in theatres has got its OTT release, while Soubin Shahir’s much-delayed entertainer Djinn was a last minute confirmation to hit theatres this week. Here’s the entire list of this week’s Malayalam releases.
Saudi Vellakka
Starring Devi Varma, Lukman Avaran, Binu Pappu and Sujith Shankar, the Tharun Moorthy directorial revolves around a veteran woman named Ayisha who gets entangled in a legal case that spans 13 years, leading to huge ramifications in the lives of everyone involves. Based on real-life incidents, the movie is a poignant tale of the delay in the legal system of the country to deliver its verdicts and the toll it takes on people.

Djinn
Scripted by Kali fame Rajesh Gopinadhan, Djinn is director Sidharth Bharathan’s biggest film yet and revolves around a man who seems to have suffered a mental imbalance from all the stress and changes in his life. The film, which has Soubin Shahir in the lead, also stars Sharafudheen, Shine Tom Chacko, Santhy Balachandran, KPAC Lalitha and Jaffer Idukki in pivotal roles.

Ennalum Ente Aliya
Lukka Chuppi and Prakashan director Bash Mohammed’s Ennalum Ente Aliya is a family entertainer revolving around two couples – essayed by Suraj Venjaramoodu and Gayathri Arun, and Siddique and Lena. How a small problem at one’s home gets blown out of proportion form the plot of the movie, which also has Meera Nandan and Sudheer Paravoor in a pivotal role.

Theru
Uppum Mulakum fame SJ Sinu’s sophomore directorial Theru has him collaborating with Amit Chakalakkal again. The film is a relevant socio-political tale about how a group of police officers harass youth and the consequent incidents. Apart from Amit, the movie also has Sanju Sivram, Baburaj and Kalabhavan Shajohn in pivotal roles.
