Halfway through the year 2023, it's clear that women's strong roles and incredible performances are what's driving the success of Indian films. Whether it's Deepika Padukone's sassy Rubina in the box office smash Pathaan also starring Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham, or the upcoming Marvel Studios' release The Marvels, which features not one but three female superheroes merging forces to save the world, strong female characters are having a moment in the spotlight.
To establish that 2023 is the year of engaging female characters and tales, we've compiled a list of the best five films that have already been produced or will be released soon.
The Marvels (releasing this Diwali)
To celebrate Diwali this year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has sent us a brilliant and formidable trio: Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), who are forced to work together against evil after their powers are accidentally switched. Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), the Kree villain of the film, is a formidable female ruler intent on eliminating Captain Marvel. Seeing these powerful women go head to head in Marvel Studios' newest film should be a sight to behold.
