Saswata Chatterjee to star with Kangana Ranaut in Razneesh Ghai’s Dhaakad

Saswata Chatterjee to play protagonist's mentor in Dhaakad

A spy-action thriller directed by Razneesh Ghai, Dhaakad has roped in some big names as its cast, with the latest addition being Bengali star Saswata Chatterjee. The actor is currently in Budapest with the cast and crew, filming for the upcoming project.

Kangana Ranaut will be seen playing the role of Agent Agni, an international spy, while Saswata will portray her mentor, and has a lot of scenes together with the actress. In fact, Ranaut was the one who had suggested his name to the director. Well-versed with the rich heritage of Bengali cinema, she has seen the works of iconic directors like Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak

Calling her a brilliant co-artiste in a chat with ETimes, Saswata praised the dedication of Ranaut by giving the example of how whenever she has to wear a well-fitted attire for a scene, she would stop eating from the day before to look her best on screen. “While we are on the sets, she discusses the scenes with the directorial team and the actors so that we can perform better,” he added.

When asked about Arjun Rampal, who will essay the character of the villain, Rudraveer, in Dhaakad, Saswata expressed he had a great time working with him, with both having a hearty chat over breakfast. Saswata went on to narrate an incident of how on one of their day-offs, the team got the opportunity to visit one of the theatres to watch Black Widow, following which they headed to a cafe for an Italian dinner. Watching a movie after so long on the big screen turned them all into children, with hands filled with popcorn and soft drinks.

Prior to Budapest, the film was filmed in Pune and Bhopal. Oscar-winning DoP Tetsuo Nagata is also a part of the crew of Dhaakad, with the movie scheduled to release on October 1.
