Director Shoojit Sircar called Sardar Udham a 'dream come true'.
The trailer for Sardar Udham is finally out. Featuring Vicky Kaushal in the titular role, the film is the story of the revolutionary who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by shooting Michael O’Dwyer in London, in March 1940. It's a tale of carrying an unhealed wound for 21 years, of unrelenting resolve and resilience which make for a distinct journey of Sardar Udham. The trailer features many faces of Vicky as Sardar Udham who touches down London in a disguise.
He follows O’Dwyer everywhere and learns his whereabouts and daily schedules. The trailer also shows him learning to shoot and befriending a few Britishers to make his plan successful of assassinating Michael O'Dwyer. For the uninitiated, Sardar Udham spent the most decisive six years of his life, to re-ignite the revolution. He gladly sacrificed his life after avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Sardar Udham was 20 when the gut-wrenching incident took place.
Sardar Udham also features Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Banita Sandhu and Kirsty Averton in pivotal roles while Amol Parashar will be seen in a special appearance.
In a statement, while talking about playing the titular role, Vicky stated, "The story of Sardar Udham Singh is one that enthralled and inspired me. It represents strength, pain, passion, extraordinary courage and sacrifice, and many such values that I have tried to do justice through my character in the film. The role called for a lot of physical, and even more mental preparation to get into Udham Singh’s shoes and bring to life the story of a man whose heroism and grit stand unmatched."
The actor added that he is looking forward to sharing an intriguing page from the history of India’s freedom struggle through this film. Vicky said that Sardar Udham is one story that needs to be shared not only in India but also across the world.
Sardar Udham is directed by Shoojit Sircar and is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video from October 16, 2021.
