The veteran actor completed 150 films in his career recently,
Sarath Kumar and Vijay
After a short hiatus, senior actor Sarath Kumar is signing movies back-to-back. The actor, who was last seen in the series Irai (streaming on aha Tamil), has started shooting for his 150th film, The Smile Man, recently. He hit the headlines a few weeks ago when he was spotted at the launch of Vamshi Paidipally's Thalapathy 66 (tentative title), starring Vijay in the lead.
There are reports that he will be seen playing the Beast star's father in the untitled project. In a chat with TOI, he revealed that he will be joining the team later this month, and that the crew will continue shooting till August.
Sarath added that the movie is likely to attract all kinds of film buffs and that he has an important character to essay in the film which will be dubbed into Telugu as well. It is heard that the movie may not have action scenes and will remind audience of some of the films Vijay was part of almost two decades ago.
The veteran actor recollected meeting Vijay at the 250th day event of the former's blockbuster film Suriyavamsam and how he predicted the latter's stardom which has become true today.
The details of other cast and crew of Thalapathy 66 are yet to be announced, except for Rashmika Mandanna's inclusion as its female lead and Thaman coming on board as its music composer. We hear that the team is planning for a theatrical release on Pongal 2023.
Ponniyin Selvan, Rendavathu Aattam, Peranthaal Parasakthi and Encounter are some of the Tamil projects Sarath currently has in his kitty. While Mani Ratnam's multi-starrer magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan will hit the screens on September 30, the release plans of other movies are yet to be revealed.
