Sara Ali Khan - 'It is important to be intelligent and articulate in this industry'
Sara Ali Khan spoke at length about how she embraces diverse roles and credits imagination as the key to authenticity.

Many of Sara Ali Khan's roles have taken place in the small towns in India, where she has strong roots. It is intriguing to observe her attraction to such parts, given that she comes from a film family and has always been a big city girl.
Imagination as the driving force for actors
During an interaction with the Bombay Times, Sara stated, "Initially, people asked if I could relate to such roles. I believe imagination is the most important thing for actors. That’s powerful, right? Otherwise, it’s limited to only playing roles that will be similar to my life. Matlab, what will it be based on? A girl who loves her brother, lives with her single mother, and goes to Columbia University to study. How many times can you watch the same stuff?"
Sara explained that it's very important to have an imagination and surrender oneself to somebody who lives in that world, using an example from her most recent big-screen film, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. Being in Laxman Utekar's real world, she may not be able to connect to it. The actor's only choice is to play the role of Somya. She believes he discovered a Somya in her, and although the filmmaker may not have related to Sara as an urban girl, she still thinks he is fond of her. So, an actor has to give in to their director and utilise their creativity to the best of their ability.

Articulation in the industry
Sara thinks that her childhood, education, and background shape a lot of her ideas and beliefs. She added that it is important to be intelligent and articulate in this industry, adding that she has spoken up about some issues in the past. Actors have a public voice so it's crucial to keep one's opinions to themselves. This is true whether people are representing their country at the UN or participating in CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives. If they want the ideas to have an impact, they must be articulate.
