With Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A, Rakshit wanted the film to grow and travel organically. Will he change that for Side B?
As the leading man and producer of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A, Rakshit Shetty had a clear vision about the path the film had to take. The ‘intense’ love story by director Hemanth M Rao was meant for a larger audience, but needed a different approach, he thought. Sapta Sagaradaache Ello was a film that had to travel organically based on positive word-of-mouth after the Kannada original comes out, much like Kantara did a year ago. So, he released the Kannada original in Karnataka, with a handful of shows in other centres like Hyderabad, Mumbai, etc. The response from Hyderabad, for instance was so encouraging that Rakshit released a Telugu-dubbed version three weeks later, which was also warmly received. And even though he had said that he was looking at doing a Malayalam release thereafter, that did not happen, and instead, the film came on OTT in all five languages.
It’s official! Rakshit Shetty’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B postponed
Ever since Rakshit announced that Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A and Side B would release 7 weeks apart (which has now been pushed ahead by another week), netizens had been urging him to bring Side A to OTT to drum up more interest among audiences for Side B. If the response to the film’s release on Amazon Prime Video is anything to go by, it is clear that there is fairly large section of audience that now regrets having missed it in theatres, while there are also many urging Rakshit to not do a staggered other language release for Side B and instead bring all 5 out on the same day on October 27. “I feel bad for not watching Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A in theatres. Only promise I can give now is that I will watch Side B FDFS,” wrote one netizen. Another wrote, “Can’t wait for Side B. Please release it in Tamil also on October 27.
When OTTplay reached out to Rakshit about the release of Side B, he confirmed that it will be lot bigger than what was done for Side A, but did not comment whether this was only for the Kannada version or all five languages. Side B, meanwhile, takes off 10 years after the events of Side A, after Rakshit’s character completes his 10 year jail sentence in a fatal hit-and-run case. The film brings the main cast back, including Rukmini Vasanth, Achyuth Kumar, Ramesh Indira and Gopalkrishna Deshpande, while Chaithra J Achar join in as a new character called Surabhi.
