While Sanya Malhotra's Mrs is set in a North Indian post-wedding, Meenakshi Sundareshwar was about a South Indian marriage.
Sanya Malhotra is back with another wedding film this time set in a North Indian family. Titled Mrs, the teaser of this ends up being Meenakshi Sundareshwar in another font. Here's how...
Although more evident in Mrs, Sanya Malhotra in both Mrs and Meenakshi Sundareshwar is someone who enjoys her own company and celebrates life to the fullest. In Mrs, she doesn't shy away by beating the dhol and loving music. With Meenakshi Sundareshwar, she enjoyed playing mind games and absolutely loved movies, especially featuring Superstar Rajinikanth.
Apart from the obvious star cast, Mrs is literally more about the family judging a bride based on her cooking skills. It is sort of a make-or-break deal for the wedding to uphold. With Meenakshi Sundareshwar, it was the long distance that left a huge void in the otherwise romantic lovers' lives.

Starring Nishant Dahiya opposite Sanya Malhotra, Mrs is a ZEE5 original film about a woman's lost dreams after marrying a middle-class doctor and settling in as a housewife (something which she didn't aim to be). Produced by Baweja Studios, the film is directed by Arati Kadav and also stars Kanwaljit Singh, Aparna Ghoshal, Mrinal Kulkarni, and Nitya Moyal in pivotal roles. The release date for Mrs has not yet been unveiled.
Meenakshi Sundareshwar, released in 2021, was about two South Indians getting married through an arranged marriage setup (the only difference is Mrs is based upon North Indian families). Co-starring Abhimanyu Dassani, the movie was out on Netflix and received mixed reviews. While Sanya and Abhimanyu's chemistry in the Karan Johar-produced film was praised, the pace of the Vivek Soni directorial did not sit well with many. Despite sharp criticism from some Tamilians, the movie bagged a few awards on the way.
