Sathish Ninasam’s getting his first direct-to-OTT release when his film, Dear Vikram, comes to Voot Select this month. The film, which was earlier called Godhra, has been directed by KS Nandeesh, a former associate of filmmaker Jacob Varghese (Prithvi, Savaari). Jacob has produced the film, which pairs Sathish with Shraddha Srinath. Although the film has been announced as a June release, Voot Select is yet to fix a date. In the run-up to the release, though, the first song from the film, Sanna Sanna Kanasu, dropped today. Sung by Sanjith Hegde and Supriyaa Raam, and set to tune by Tony Joseph, the song, picturized on the lead pair, is a peppy romantic dance number that has the duo doing a jiggy.

Dear Vikram was launched way back in 2017, but was completed only in early 2020, soon after which the pandemic struck, delaying its release further. In late 2020, when the team began making plans for its release, it ran into trouble with the censor board, which objected to the title and the content of the film. All promotional material about the film had gone under the name Godhra until then, and despite the team’s assertion that the story has nothing to do with the train burning and subsequent riots in Gujarat in 2002, the board members were apparently not convinced and insisted on a change of title. The team eventually gave in and took the easy way out by naming the film after Sathish’s character, Vikram. The film, according to the team, is centred on Vikram and Nithya’s (Shraddha) love story, set against the strong backdrop of politics and social change.

Beside Dear Vikram, Sathish also has a few other films lined up for release, like, for instance, Dasara, which has been produced by Sharmiela Mandre, Petromax and Matinee. It remains to be seen if Sharmiela can hold on to the title of her film, as Tollywood star Nani also has a pan-Indian film by the same name.
