Sanjay Leela Bhansali identified the difference between Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, two actors the filmmaker had previously worked with.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for his extravagant sets and also for his resonating heroines. The filmmaker was recently asked to pick between Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, and the director explained how they were different from each other.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, one of the fan questions the director faced was how the two talented actors were different from a filmmaker's perspective.
They are different people. They have different approaches, they have different heights. They have different voices, they have different body language. They have different approaches to cinema, "said Bhansali.
The filmmaker also said that if he had to choose someone for Bajirao Mastani, he would choose Padukone, and if he had to go for someone to do Gangubai, he would choose Bhatt.
Bhansali also added that while he does not mean to say that neither could do the other role, he feels that the casting he did is correct, keeping their essence.
Bhansali’s latest film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt in the lead, is running successfully in theatres. While this is his first collaboration with Bhatt, he has previously directed Padukone in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat.
The movie, which tells the story of a brothel madam who works to bring reforms in the lives of sex workers, has received positive reviews from across the country.
She has shut down the naysayers who said she looked miscast in every frame of the film. The actor took up the challenge and has passed with flying colours while wearing white for 98% of the film,” read OTTPlay’s review of the film.
The film, which also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, and Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles, is available to watch in theatres.
