Sandwich turns 18

Some actor-director duos are truly iconic, creating a unique brand of cinema together. One such partnership in Hindi cinema was between superstar Govinda and veteran director David Dhawan. The two delivered a series of comedy films that continue to entertain audiences to this day. But when Govinda wasn’t busy being a hero for Dhawan, he once ventured into the comedy realm of Anees Bazmee, who was already a trusted writer and on his way to becoming a celebrated filmmaker. The two teamed up for a film called Sandwich: Double Trouble in 2006, which, despite its poor box office performance, went on to become a favorite on satellite TV. As the movie turns 18 today, let’s find out where you can stream it.

The Journey of Sandwich

In case you’re not familiar with its background, Sandwich had quite a journey. The movie, completed in 2003, was delayed for three years before finally releasing in 2006. Written and directed by Anees Bazmee, the film was originally titled Hum Do Humara Ek. However, due to delays, the makers decided to change the title to Sandwich: Double Trouble. Now, as the movie celebrates its 18th anniversary, here’s where you can watch it on streaming.

Where to Watch Sandwich

Starring Govinda, Raveena Tandon, and Mahima Chaudhary in leading roles, Sandwich is currently streaming in India on Zee5. You can also watch it with an OTTplay Premium subscription. The film is a comedy-drama that was released on August 25, 2006, with a runtime of 152 minutes. Produced by Smita Thackeray, the movie found a larger audience on television compared to its theatrical release, where it was labeled a flop.

According to Bollywood Bubble, Bazmee is also keen on the opportunity to work with Govinda again. He mentioned that if a suitable role comes along, he will definitely approach the actor.

Anees Bazmee said, “Not only me, there are many others who also want to work with him. And the day I get an opportunity, when I feel that yes, this is the particular film, the particular role that Govinda ji should do, then of course, I’ll be happy to approach him. We share such a long-standing association that I know if there is something perfectly written for him, and if he does it, it will be great. He will totally elevate that character.”
