Sandra Oh has shared an update on the second season of The Chair the Netflix series which tackled the issues of discrimination, sexism and ageism in academia.

The actor, also known for her roles in Grey's Anatomy and Killing Eve said it's unlikely that the show will return for a sophomore instalment.

"No one's called me, so I'm guessing that's not happening," Oh told Variety's Awards Circuit Podcast. She added that she would have loved to reprise her role as Dr Ji-yoon Kim, the first woman of colour to become the chair of a fictional New England university's English department.

"I would have loved it because I just thought that there was so much material there to potentially explore. Because the setting and the characters were established... I'm just happy that it happened, it was a great experience. But I am sad that it's over," she said.

Also seen in supporting roles were Jay Duplass, Holland Taylor, Bob Balaban and David Morse.

For her role in The Chair Oh earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for lead female actor in a comedy series category.

Oh's upcoming projects include an animated feature Turning Red and a horror film Umma.

The first season of The Chair is streaming on Netflix.
