Natyam, the film marking the debut of Kuchipudi classical dancer Sandhya Raju as an actor, producer, choreographer, costume designer, choreographer and production designer, is heading for a theatrical release on October 22. Written, directed, edited and cinematographed by Revanth Korukonda, the film's first look, teaser and the song titled Namah Shivaya, released recently to positive responses all around. Announcing the release date, the makers Nishrinkala Films shared a new poster and a promotional video featuring Sandhya Raju.
The new-look from the film has Sandhya Raju dressed in a white flowing costume, performing a dance move amidst the backdrop of an ancient temple. The innovative promotional video features the actress and a group of dancers and youngsters enthusiastically announcing the release date through a song at a theatre in Hyderabad. Sandhya Raju is seen taking tickets from the counter, promising audiences a memorable, heart-warming film on dance that could be watched by all audiences regardless of age group.
Kamal Kamaraju, Rohit Behl, Aditya Menon, Bhanupriya, Subhalekha Sudhakar and Rukmini Vijaykumar essay key roles in the film that has a music score by Malli Raava-fame Shravan Bharadwaj. Karunakar Adigarla has penned the lyrics for the album, while Mahesh Upputuri is the art director. The film traces the personal, professional highs and lows in the life of a dancer played by Sandhya Raju. In times when classical dance has disappeared from Telugu cinema to a large extent, Natyam is indeed a laudable attempt that the art fraternity would welcome with cheer.
