Sandeep Reddy Vanga helmed Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead role. The filmmaker revealed why he was warned against casting Shahid.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga delivered a blockbuster film, Arjun Reddy, in 2017. Starring Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role, the film had a successful run at the box office. After Arjun Reddy became a hit, Sandeep was asked to remake it in Hindi. However, the filmmaker had a hard time working on the same.
In an interview, Sandeep revealed not everybody was in favour of casting Shahid Kapoor for Arjun Reddy's Hindi remake, Kabir Singh.

Speaking with iDream Media, Sandeep Reddy Vanga revealed why he was warned against casting Shahid Kapoor in Kabir Singh.

"Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done Rs 100 crore then, his highest was Rs 65 crore. They used to say Rs 55 crore, Rs 65 crore is the kind of business Telugu movies do. ‘Why are you doing it with this guy? If it was Ranveer, the box office would be higher’. But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor," he told the portal.
Ranveer Singh was approached for Kabir Singh
In the same interaction, Sandeep mentioned Ranveer Singh was offered Kabir Singh. The filmmaker wanted to do the Hindi remake with him. However, Singh decided to give it a miss as he felt the movie was too dark for him at that time.
What's next for Sandeep?
On the work front, Sandeep's upcoming movie is Animal. It marks his first professional collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor. Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol are also an integral part of the film. The film explores the complicated relationship of a father-son duo, played by Anil and Ranbir.
A grand pre-release event of Animal was recently held. Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli joined team Animal for the mega event, which was successful. As for the movie, it will hit the big screen on December 1. It will clash with Vicky Kaushal's Sam Bahadur at the box office.
