Sandeep Reddy Vanga calls out the audience who disapproved of Kabir Singh, Animal endings - ‘Aur kya chahiye, maar dun hero ko climax mein?’

Sandeep Reddy Vanga has lashed out against the audience who disapproved of Kabir Singh and Animal climaxes. He argued that the personal biases of the audience end up limiting creativity onscreen.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga needs no introduction. The director has been defending his violent and often, misogynistic romantic filmy angles since Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh days. Recently the director also called out the critical audience for letting their personal views and expectations get in their way of viewing a film.

In a recent interview, Sandeep Reddy reasoned that a large section of the audience did not like his films because of “personal agenda” and that such an approach can make even films like James Cameron’s Avatar appear “boring”. The director explained that had Shahid Kapoor’s eponymous character Kabir Singh admitted his toxic and problematic approach and resolved to change, he would have ended up alone.

He cited a similar example from Animal and said that there were already “so many consequences”. “The father is going to die, his wife will be leaving him, his health is gone for a toss. Aur kya chahiye, maar dun hero ko climax mein?” asked Vanga regarding Ranbir Kapoor’s Ranvijay Singh (which roughly translates to ‘what more do you want, to kill the hero in the climax?’).

Sandeep Reddy Vanga further shared his opinion with Dainik Bhaskar that viewers do not like a film if they do not get to see their preferred climax. According to him, such viewers only enjoy films with a more conventional resolution, where the protagonists reap what their actions have sown. He stated that if “personal agenda comes in between watching a film, then Avatar will be boring, Animal kya hai?”

The film is highly controversial for its violent scenes and misogynistic leads. Animal is currently streaming on Netflix.
