Vazhakk, the acclaimed Malayalam action-drama film that features Tovino Thomas in the lead role has been making headlines lately for all the wrong reasons. Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan recently alleged that the popular actor tried to prevent the release of the film, fearing it might negatively impact his image. Tovino Thomas, however, rubbished the director’s claims in an Instagram video, with some proof. Recently, director Sanal reacted to the actor’s statement by releasing Vazhakk on Vimeo, to the shock of both industry members and the audience.
The acclaimed filmmaker, who is reportedly against the idea of releasing Vazhakk on any leading OTT platforms due to their terms and conditions decided to surprise the audience by dropping the film on Vimeo. Sanal Kumar Sasidharan made this move after leading man Tovino Thomas, who is also the co-producer of the film, released a video on his official Instagram handle, denying the allegations. For the uninitiated, the director earlier alleged that Tovino is against releasing the film in theatres, as the actor fears that it might impact his onscreen image negatively.
“The film is for the audience to watch. Vazhakk / The Quarrel. Those who want to see can see. Those who understand why it doesn't come out can understand,” wrote Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, who shared the Vimeo.com link to watch Vazhakk on his official Facebook handle. The audiences, however, are clearly not happy with the move and are now criticising the filmmaker for letting down actor-producer Tovino Thomas, who has invested around Rs. 27 lakh in the project.
For the uninitiated, Vazhakk is now streaming online at the popular video sharing platform Vimeo for free. The Tovino Thomas starrer is uploaded on the sharing platform through the official handle of director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan himself. The action drama, which has a duration of around 1 hour and 33 minutes, is available for streaming only in the Malayalam language so far. Along with Tovino, Vazhakk features Kani Kusruthi, Sudev Nair, Azeez Nedumangad, and others in the key roles.
