The actress was speaking to the media on the sidelines of her song shoot for the Shreyas Manju starrer Raana.
It’s been a while since Kirik Party fame Samyuktha Hegde has been seen in Kannada circles. Even her film Thurthu Nirgamana has been delayed for a while owing to the pandemic. In the interim, though, she has done a few Tamil films, three of which are ready for release. In Kannada, the actress was recently roped in for a special number in the Shreyas Manju starrer Raana. The song, choreographed by Imran Sardhariya, was supposed to be done by Ragini Dwivedi, but when date clashes forced her out, Samyuktha stepped in.
On set of the song, the actress met the media and in the course of the conversation, she was asked about her work and why she wasn’t doing anything in Kannada. Samyuktha retorted matter of fact that the question about her not doing films in Kannada had to be directed to filmmakers who were not giving local talent opportunities. “This is not a question to ask an actress,” she said, adding, “Ask Kannada filmmakers why they won’t give roles to local talent. This is not something that is in my hands. It is up to directors and producers to offer roles to Kannadiga actresses. I will most definitely work in Kannada films if I get an opportunity. The reason I am doing films in other languages is because there’s no work here,” she said.
Thurthu Nirgamana, meanwhile, is her film with Sunil Raoh, which was supposed to release in early 2020, but has been delayed since owing to the pandemic. “The makers are still undecided about whether to wait it out and find a good window to release it in theatres, because it was made for the big-screen experience, or whether to head to OTT, given that the film has quirky content that is apt for such an outing,” she said.
