Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, and Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the director of Samrat Prithviraj performed Ganga puja with Samrat Prithviraj's flag in Varanasi on Monday, before travelling to the auspicious Somnath Temple in Gujarat, one of India's holiest Hindu temples. As a symbol of honour to the mighty king's valour, the team is carrying Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan's flag to key cities. Akshay also took a dip in the Holy Ganga in Varanasi.
In the film, Akshay plays the heroic and inspiring Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, who is his first historical character. Yash Raj Films is producing this enormous visual spectacle, which is helmed by noted filmmaker Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi. Sanyogita, the King's beloved princess, is played by Manushi, who makes her much-anticipated debut with Samrat Prithviraj.
In a statement, Dwivedi said that Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan devoted his life to fighting for Bharatmata's freedom. He saved India from Mohammad of Ghor, a ruthless invader intent on plundering the land. Their film tells the tale of Samrat Prithviraj's life and contribution to the history of our country. They have now sought his blessings by performing the Ganga puja with his flag in Varanasi. The team is presently taking the holy Ganga water to the Somnath Temple to perform another puja with Samrat Prithviraj's flag.
Earlier, while talking about playing Prithviraj in the period drama, Akshay had said that when making a historical like Samrat Prithviraj, which is based on the life and daredevilry of a powerful warrior who lost his life to preserve his motherland and people, one must be certain that they are staying true to his life and times. The actor was ecstatic to be working with a renowned historian like Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi ji, who has demonstrated his impeccable research and knowledge of Indian history in previous works.
The film also features Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles. Samrat Prithviraj will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on Friday.
