The big budget film, which released worldwide on June 3, is set to drop on this OTT platform after its theatrical run
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar’s biggest period film yet, Samrat Prithviraj, hit theatres on June 3. The actor has already bet big on the movie, which is helmed by Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi and marks the acting debut of former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, who will be seen as Prithviraj Chauhan’s wife Sanyogita.
The film, which released in a record number of theatres worldwide, apparently took 18 years of research and two years of VFX to get it ready for screens. The movie itself took about fours to make with the pandemic lockdowns forcing several hurdles along the way.
Revolving around the story of 12th century Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan, it spans his battles with foreign invaders especially Muhammad Ghori. While Akshay plays the titular role, the film also has a stellar cast featuring Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manushi, Sakshi Tanwar, Ashutosh Rana and Manav Vij as the antagonist Muhammed Ghori.
The past week, several celebs and politicians, who have watched the preview of the film, has been hailing its grand visual effects and calling it a “must watch” in theatres. Akshay’s film also got a shout out from his Sooryavanshi co-star Ajay Devgn who had tweeted, “Samrat Prithviraj is a big-ticket adventure that should be enjoyed only on the big screen.”
However, for those who won’t be able to catch the screenings of the film, the movie will drop on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run. While the makers are yet to announce the OTT release date, it is expected to release on July 1 2022.
The historical war drama, which is produced by Yash Raj Films, released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on June 3. While the film was declared tax free in states such as Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, it was banned in several Arab countries including Oman and Kuwait, according to trade sources.
