Akshay Kumar's historic film Samrat Prithviraj was one of the most anticipated films of the year. Fans of the actor have eagerly been waiting to catch a show of the drama and the box office collections show that the film is picking up pace. As compared to the morning on the day of its release on June 3, the film is moving steadily. The film managed to collect Rs 10.50-10.75 crore net on the first day. Though the collection is comparatively low, it seems to be improving gradually.
The Chandra Prakash Dwivedi directorial received much fanfare and hype and many states also declared it tax-free. The film saw good business in states like UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, MP and Gujarat, according to Box Office India report. The driving force in these areas is said to be the original Hindi content, following Yash's KGF 2 and Jr NTR-Ram Charan's RRR. The slow start at the box office for Samrat Prithviraj is said to be due to low commercial elements in the film and also the fact that its music was not really a hit among the masses.
According to the portal, the film will make further advancements today. It needs to be seen if the multiplexes of the metros can manage to show good growth after a weak first day compared to other belts. The film is also facing stiff competition from south Indian films like Major and Kamal Haasan's Vikram - Hitlist.
Samrat Prithviraj is the second most expensive film of Akshay Kumar after Sooryavanshi. The film is said to have been made on a budget of about Rs 200 crore. The film opened to mixed reviews from the fans and critics alike. A part of the OTTplay review reads: "Samrat Prithviraj has all the elements which are craved by the audience nowadays: great supporting cast, masala elements, and great music. The heightened drama deserves a thumbs up, but it's something that seemed like not a cup of tea to be served by Akshay."
The film, also starring Manushi Chhillar, Sonu Sood, Sanjay Dutt and others, is currently running in theatres across the country.
