Samrat Prithviraj: Akshay Kumar on how ‘brilliant’ VFX team worked for two years to ‘scale up’ the film

Samrat Prithviraj promises to bring the tale of the late king onto the big screen with visual grandeur, as the film’s trailers seem to suggest. The trailers have given more than a few glimpses into the film’s stunning visuals that consist of sprawling gold tinted palaces and grandly mounted battle sequences. Akshay Kuamr, who stars as the film’s titular character, recently talked about the efforts that the film’s VFX team put into the film to recreate the historical scenes.

In conversation with Mid-Day, Kumar praised the VFX team at Yash Raj Films, calling them ‘brilliant’. The actor said that the makers knew that the film’s VFX team, called yFX, could definitely ‘scale up’ the entire film if they had enough time to work on the movie footage. The onset of the pandemic gave the team the necessary opportunity to do so. Over the course of two years, the team had worked on the footage as best as they could. “So, you can only imagine the scale that has been achieved through VFX”, said the actor.

The actor also talked about the effort the makers put in to make the film as ‘visually appealing’ as possible. Kumar said that they wanted to tell Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’s tale in all its glory. To achieve the same they had built expansive sets, designed elaborate war sequences and shot in beautiful locations as well.

The film’s producers have reportedly spent almost Rs 25 crore on set design alone to recreate scenes from 12th century Delhi, Ajmer and Kannauj from scratch. In an earlier statement, Kumar had said that they wanted to mount a ‘big-screen entertainer’ for viewers by making it as visually appealing as possible.

Samrat Prithviraj will hit the big screen on June 3, Friday.
