In a new interview, Samantha Ruth Prabhu opened up about her divorce from Naga Chaitanya. They separated in 2021.
Naga Chaitanya, previously married to his ex-wife Samantha Ruth Prabhu is set to tie the knot again with actress Sobhita Dhulipala on December 4 at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad. Amid this, in a recent interview, Samantha opened up about her journey post-divorce, sharing how she dealt with public scrutiny and social stigma after her split from Naga Chaitanya in 2021.
In a recent interview with Galatta India, Samantha Ruth Prabhu addressed the social stigma and also comments from people after her divorce from Naga Chaitanya.
She said that when a woman goes through a divorce, there’s a lot of shame and stigma attached to it. "I received comments like ‘second-hand,' 'used,' and ‘wasted life’. You’re pushed into a corner where you’re supposed to feel like you’re a failure. You’re supposed to feel guilt and shame that you were once married and now you’re not and I do believe it can be really, really hard for families and girls who have gone through that," Samantha added.
Addressing the viral moment when Samantha repurposed her white wedding gown into a striking black dress for an event, the Citadel: Honey Bunny actress said that the reason why she did that was because she wanted to, and initially, that hurt.
The actress added that it really hurt and then she decided to flip it and that she would own it.
"Yeah, I am separated and I am divorced. Things haven’t been a fairy tale but that does not mean that I sit in a corner cry about it and never ever have the courage to live again," she said.
For the unversed, the couple got engaged in a private ceremony in Hyderabad on January 29, 2017. They tied the knot in Goa on October 6 and 7, 2017. The wedding included a Hindu ceremony and a Christian wedding. Samantha and Naga also had a grand reception attended by many prominent figures from the film industry. However, they separated in 2021.
Now, Naga Chaitanya is all set to marry actress Sobhita Dhulipala. They got engaged in August and will be married on December 4. In a new interview with The Times of India, Naga Chaitanya opened up about his marriage plans and said that he is ‘looking forward’ to starting a new journey with her.
