Many prominent figures from the Indian film industry including Jaaved Jaaferi mourned the actor's demise.

Veteran actor Salim Ghouse, known for his roles in Shyam Benegal's Doordarshan TV show Bharat Ek Khoj as well as movies like Shah Rukh Khan's Koyla and Mani Ratnam's Thiruda Thiruda, passed away at 70 on Thursday morning.

According to news agency PTI Salim was rushed to Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital after he complained of chest pains on Wednesday. A family member told the news agency that he passed away in the hospital.

The 1978 movie Swarg Narak marked his feature film debut, where he played an unnamed role. His other movies include Shyam Benegal's Manthan, Kalyug, Sardari Begum Mahesh Bhatt's Saaransh and Saeed Akhtar Mirza's Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!

Besides being a part of Hindi movies like Soldier, Badal and Aks in supporting roles, he has starred in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies like Vettri Vizhaa, Thazhvaram, and Mugguru Monagallu.

Salim also has two English-language movies to his credit — The Deceivers and The Perfect Murder. His last feature outing was Shyam's Well Done Abba.

PTI adds that Salim had lent his voice to the Hindi language dub of The Lion King (1995) and Gerard Butler's 300.
