When Duniya Vijay announced his directorial debut Salaga, he was clear that the story revolved around his perception of the underworld and going by the images that have made it to the public domain it seemed that there was quite a bit of action and violence as well with Vijay wielding guns and machetes galore. However, Vijay also clarified that the narrative also had a love story at its crux.

Earlier this week, the film was censored and awarded an ‘A’ certificate, which Vijay is not going to contest, although the rating will likely keep family audiences away from theatres. According to a Times of India report, Vijay clarified that the certification was understandable, given that the film required a certain level of rawness in treatment and that it is common place for a subject like this, which has a fair amount of gore and violence. In accepting the certification, the actor has also avoided deletions or words/sentences being muted, which would have been the case if he had argued for a U/A rating to allow family audiences.

Vijay has no regrets about the rating and says that he understands that this course of action is the best for his film, so that the intended message of his film is presented undiluted. In fact, the actor has been quoted as saying that content on digital platforms is far more extreme compared to his treatment of the film. The film will release on October 14, along with Kichcha Sudeep’s Kotigobba 3 and Vijay says that he is eager to see how audiences react to the festive releases. Produced by Tagaru maker KP Sreekanth, the film also stars Daali Dhananjaya in a cop role and comedy man Nagabhushan as a lawyer. The film’s music has already been making waves, considering Tagaru hitmaker Charan Raj is behind this one too.
