Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire director Prashanth Neel, with his last two KGF chapters, has established a style, scale, and vibe of movies that he aspires to create and promote. Men with machoism dripping from their dense beards and a world that looks like someone screamed 'Over The Top' so many times in the meetings that the production designer worked extra hours every single day. And he even has an audience for this. But when he shifts his focus to a new actor and two of them this time, does the formula that seems similar promise to work?

Starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is the story of two friends who have lived through tragedies together as teenagers. Shiva (Prabhas) promised Vardharaja (Prithviraj) that he would stand tall the day he wanted him to protect him. They grow up; the latter has a kingdom and an enemy at the doorstep, and he calls Shiva. Shiva comes in and almost kills everyone who goes against his friend.

The blueprint and the visuals of Salaar are not much different from KGF. The trailer takes you through this story in a very linear way. You are told the roots of this story are in the historical era when Genghis Khan invaded India. Vardharaja's father rules Khansaar, formerly a fortress and now a kingdom. The trailer does promise a lot of action, bloodshed, and twists.

But the problem is that it all looks very similar to what we have seen over the past couple of years. While Prithviraj Sukumaran is a very worthy addition to the cast of Salaar, his frames are the ones that leave the most impact. Prabhas walks through the entire trailer with the same expression and maybe that is what his fans crave. While the mystery will be solved when the movie hits theatres on December 22, 2023, the movie will have to be bulletproof to move the audience.

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire directed by Prashanth Neel, is a multilingual movie that will release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more on this and everything else in the world of streaming and films.
