Salaar on OTT: Leading streamer, television network bag digital, satellite deals for a fancy price?

It’s official that Salaar has now been postponed from September 28 to a later date. This is director Prashanth Neel’s fourth film, an action entertainer produced by KGF franchise makers Hombale Films, starring Prabhas, Shruti Haasan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead. The postponement has resulted in change of release plans for several films across multiple industries.

While there are reports that the film may arrive in November or December, a final call on Salaar’s release date is yet to be taken. Meanwhile, we’ve learnt from trusted sources that the OTT and satellite deals for the film have been finalised. Streaming giant Netflix, which has been aggressive in its acquisition of Telugu films this year, has reportedly bagged the rights for a fancy sum.

A report by South Celebrity suggests that the Netflix deal could be valued anywhere between Rs 170 crore and Rs 200 crore (for Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada). Meanwhile, the Star Network is believed to have had the final laugh with the satellite deal, where they acquired the satellite rights of Salaar for all the five languages - Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil.

The particulars of the satellite rights hasn’t been disclosed in public yet. Salaar will release in two parts. The first part has been titled Salaar Part 1: Cease Fire. Tinnu Anand, Jagapathi Babu, Sriya Reddy, Easwari Rao, Saptagiri, Brahmaji essay crucial roles as well in the film which has music by Ravi Basrur (who’s also composing music for Gopichand’s cop saga Bhimaa)

Bhuvan Gowda is the cinematographer for Salaar while Ujwal Kulkarni is the editor. Prashanth Neel is also slated to team up with Jr NTR for a project to be produced under Mythri Movie Makers. Prabhas, after Salaar, will be seen in the futuristic tale Kalki 2898 AD, Maruthi’s horror comedy and Spirit, a cop saga, helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
