Eagle-eyed netizens spotted the official synopsis on a UAE-based ticket booking site and highlighted the similarities it has with director Prashant Neel’s debut movie
It’s a rumour that’s been doing the rounds ever since Kannada filmmaker Prashant Neel announced his Telugu debut and today, netizens say it is all but confirmed – Salaar is the remake of Ugramm. Way back when Salaar was announced there were murmurs that Prashant was redoing his debut film, which he’d struggled to make over a few years with his brother-in-law Sriimurali in the lead. Ugramm, Prashant has been quoted as saying, is considered a cult classic today, and gave Sriimurali’s career a new lease of life, but monetarily, it did not do much for the filmmaker. His biggest learning from the making of Ugramm, he said, was that he should have made it with a big star.

When he then announced a film with Prabhas and kept all details about it under a tight lid, netizens couldn’t help but wonder if he was doing what he couldn’t with his debut – making Ugramm with a big star on a massive scale. Salaar, it was said, was Ugramm on a far bigger canvas, with the basic plotline remaining the same, with newer characters in the mix. Music director Ravi Basrur confirmed this when he was asked if Salaar was the remake of Ugramm , and said, “It is public knowledge”.

Earlier today, netizens who have been tracking developments surrounding Salaar, to figure if there is an update on the release date, ever since Hombale Films confirmed its postponement from September 28, found an interesting bit of information. A UAE-based ticket aggregator has listed an official synopsis for the film, as well as a tentative release date. Salaar: Ceasfire, according to the site, will be in theatres on November 2, while the synopsis reads, “The story is set in the backdrop of a violent past, present and a war-torn city, where Prabhas is torn between his promise to his mother and his loyalty to his friend. Salaar means the king's general, the one who leads the king’s army. "Salaar" is a story about the power of relationships and the consequences of one's actions, told through a violent and emotionally charged narrative."
A war-torn city with a violent past and present is Ugramm’s Mughor, while Agastya (Sriimurali) being torn between his promise to his mother to lead a violence-free life and of remaining in exile from Mughor out of respect for Baala (Tilak), makes up the rest of Salaar’s plot. OTTplay has it on good authority that the rumours are true and that Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the character done by Tilak in the original.
