The filmmaker’s next is Salaar, his first straight Telugu release right after the KGF franchise
Prashanth Neel, who has consistently credited Telugu cinema for shaping his sensibilities as a commercial filmmaker and his ideas of heroism, is finally getting to live his dream with his straight Telugu release Salaar. This is his first project outside Kannada cinema, right after the stupendous success of the KGF franchise across multiple languages. Salaar is headlined by Prabhas, Shruti Haasan.
The director turns 43 today. Commemorating his birthday, a special glimpse of the filmmaker from the sets of Salaar was unveiled some time ago. “Warmest birthday wishes to the incredibly talented director #PrashanthNeel. From the sets of @Salaarthesaga,” they wrote as they shared the glimpse. Produced by Hombale Films, the makers of KGF, Salaar releases on September 23.
“A madman, transformed his scribbles into scripts that transcended borders, narratives presented in ways that hadn’t yet been seen. To one such madman, we wish a very happy birthday,” the makers shared in the video. The video takes us through his discussions with Prabhas, Shruti Haasan and the crew besides his jolly-good times when he’s spotted playing cricket, cracking jokes with the team.
He’s consistently seen holding a sword throughout the glimpse, which promises several heavyweight action sequences. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sriya Reddy, Easwari Rao, Madhu Guruswamy and Jagapathi Babu play other important roles in Salaar. Ravi Basrur scores the music for the film which has cinematography by Bhuvan Gowda. Ujwal Kulkarni, who worked on KGF: Chapter 2 as well, is the editor.
With his use of the greyscale, visual aesthetics and characterisation, several rumours have suggested Salaar could be an extension to Prashanth Neel’s previous Kannada actioner Ugramm. The filmmaker is set to team up with Jr NTR for a film to be produced by Mythri Movie Makers later. Before Salaar, Prabhas will have another release this year in the form of the mythological drama Adipurush.
