Salaar gets Yuva’s release date after all; what happens next?

Fans had been urging Hombale Films not to meddle around with Yuva Rajkumar’s launchpad and to give Salaar a different date

Ever since Hombale Films took a last-minute decision to push the release of the Prabhas-starrer Salaar Ceasefire ahead from its very cozy September 28 initial plan, there was a lot of speculation about when the Prashant Neel directorial would be in theatres after all. November 2, Diwali, December 22 and Sankranti 2024 were among the popular choices discussed on social media, although, most of these options presented Salaar with massive competition at the box office.

Over time, when December 22 was seen as the most likely date, given that the banner had ‘booked’ it for its Yuva Rajkumar-starrer Yuva, the young actor’s fans began taking to social media to urge Hombale Films not to meddle with his launchpad. Yuva Rajkumar, the grandson of late matinee idol Dr Rajkumar, is being launched by the production house with a film directed by Santhosh Ananddram. Today, it was officially announced that Salaar Ceasefire, the first part of the Salaar saga will be in theatres on December 22 after all, in direct competition with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki. Hombale Films is yet to clarify what happens with Yuva now, but a postponement seems to be the most likely scenario.

It is being said that Yuva will now be in theatres in March this year, around the birth anniversary of his late uncle, Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar. However, fans are still hopeful that Hombale Films may just retain Yuva as a December 22 release, pointing out that Mythri Movie Makers brought out Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Balayya’s Veerasimhareddy on the same day. The argument in favour of December 22 is that Salaar is intrinsically a Telugu film and may not do well in Karnataka (in its Kannada version) if the Ugramm remake rumours prove to be true after all. In that scenario, Hombale Films’ backup to retain the local audience is Yuva.

If Yuva does get postponed after all, Sankranti, reckon netizens, is also ruled out, making March 15, 2024 the most likely bet, thereby making it a Puneeth tribute. The ball is now in Hombale Films' court - will they pay heed to fans' demand or go ahead with a new plan?
