The Prashant Neel directed Salaar is set to release in theatres on September 28 and so far, only a teaser that barely provided a glimpse of lead actor Prabhas has been made public.
Fans of Telugu superstar Prabhas are undoubtedly getting impatient as they wait for official word on the beginning of Salaar promotions with, say, the first single from the much-awaited Prashant Neel directorial. The hope was that the first single would be released in the first week of August, since the film is coming out on September 28, but five days into the month, there’s no word from the banner, Hombale Films. Earlier today, #SalaarFirstSingle was trending on social media, as netizens speculated that an announcement about a song by composer Ravi Basrur would be made latest by next week.
But will Hombale Films begin its promotional blitzkrieg with more than a month and a half to go? If one goes by the strategy that they followed for the KGF saga, it is unlikely that we will get to see or hear anything from Salaar for some more time and here’s why. When KGF: Chapter 1 became Hombale’s first pan-India film, they needed a lot of time to build up excitement around it and its leading man Yash for audiences outside of Karnataka, so, the trailer came out on November 9, but the first song Salaam Rocky Bhai was out with only two weeks to go for the theatrical release.
With KGF: Chapter 2, the first song, Toofan, was released on March 21, with the trailer following six days later on March 27. Given that Prabhas needs no introduction to global audiences, and that Prashant seems to be trying to keep the project shrouded in mystery for as long as possible, could it be that Salaar’s songs and trailer will start dropping from the last week of August only? The team could then look at literally carpet bombing with Salaar promotional material in the 3-4 weeks leading to its theatrical release.
