Netflix had confirmed that Prashant Neel’s Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire will be available on the platform in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam shortly; there was no word on the Hindi version
On the auspicious occasion of Sankranti, Netflix had announced its upcoming slate of Telugu original titles, including the much-awaited Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire, which, the streamer stated, will also be available with Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil audio options. The announcement did not include word on the Hindi version, causing speculation as to whether the makers, Hombale Films, has sold the rights to any other platform.
OTTplay checked in with Chaluve Gowda, co-founder of Hombale Films, who confirmed that the streamer’s announcement was a festival special. As for the Hindi version, he added that the Prabhas-led film will be on Netflix only and that an official announcement to this effect would happen shortly. Unlike the south, where films can begin streaming within 30 days of their theatrical outing, Hindi movies have a mandatory 90-day waiting period. Salaar released in theatres on December 22, 2023, and it is being reported that the south Indian language versions could drop on Netflix as early as Republic Day (January 26), although there’s been no official confirmation of the same. The Hindi version will likely be available sometime in March this year.
Director Prashant Neel’s film, meanwhile, was his updated version of his debut directorial Ugramm, owing to which it did not have a great run at the box office in Karnataka. The film did most of its business in Andhra and Telangana, with the Hindi version also contributing a sizeable chunk, following the non-performance of Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki at the box office. Prashant had said that he will return to direct the second instalment of the saga if the first part is well-received and going by how Hombale Films has been celebrating its success, it goes without saying that Salaar Part 2 will be on the horizon shortly.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jagapathi Babu, Sriya Reddy, Shruti Haasan, Pramod, Naveen Shankar, Garuda Ram, Sourav Lokesh, among others. Prashant’s regular collaborators, cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda and music director Ravi Basrur were on board this film too.
