The Prashant Neel directed Salaar Ceasefire is releasing in theatres on December 22 in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam. Overseas bookings have already begun.
In exactly three weeks, Rebel Star Prabhas’ Salaar Ceasefire will be in theatres. The Prashant Neel directorial was earlier meant to release on September 28, but had to be pushed ahead in the eleventh hour, owing to delays and concerns with quality of the VFX output. In choosing December 22 as its date with audiences, thereby displacing Yuva Rajkumar’s launchpad Yuva to March 2024, Salaar Ceasefire has set up a box office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Rajkumar Hirani directed Dunki. Advance bookings for Salaar will begin exactly a week ahead, on December 15, confirmed Hombale Films, which is distributing the film in Karnataka.
Salaar, according to the makers, will release in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi and it remains to be seen how the split of these languages will be in Karnataka, the home ground of Hombale Films. The screen/show allocation for the Kannada version will, obviously, be under major scrutiny. Given that the team has taken great efforts to ensure that the Kannada dubbing is par excellence, the hope is that a fair number of screens will be allotted to the version.
The trailer that came out earlier today revealed that at least four Kannada actors are a part of Salaar’s massive ensemble cast, namely Pramod, Naveen Shankar, Garuda Ram and Madhu Guruswamy. While Prashant had earlier clarified that Salaar has no KGF connect, audiences had remained confident there would be a cross-over, what with Eashwari Rao being a part of the cast. But Garuda Ram’s inclusion should put those rumours to rest. Ram played KGF: Chapter 1’s main antagonist, Garuda.
The film, according to netizens, is most definitely the Kannada remake of Prashant’s earlier Ugramm, albeit on a massively larger scale. The core ideas of both films remain the same, with Prashant adding new characters and upping the visual grandeur through the lend of DOP Bhuvan Gowda.
