Saif Ali Khan records statement, describes harrowing home invasion and stabbing attack

Saif Ali Khan was stabbed during a home invasion on January 16. The attacker demanded Rs 1 crore but was caught after a three-day manhunt. Khan suffered six stab wounds, including one to his spine.

On Thursday, Saif Ali Khan spoke with the Bandra police about his experience after being stabbed in his Mumbai residence on January 16 by an intruder. The actor recounted the event by saying that he and his actor wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, were in their 11th-floor bedroom in the Satguru Sharan building when they heard the nanny of their younger son, Jehangir (Jeh), cry.

Details of the attack on Saif Ali Khan and his family

The cries roused them, and they hastened to their son's bedroom, where they beheld the accused assailant. Eliyama Philips, the nanny, was yelling and screaming in terror while Jeh sobbed and Saif reported the incident to the authorities.

As per NDTV, according to police sources, the accused stabbed the actor multiple times in the back, neck, and hands as he attempted to apprehend him. They also stated that Saif, in pain, pushed the intruder into the room, while Philips fled with Jeh and locked him inside.

Intruder's attempted burglary and demand for money

The assailant entered the flat on the 12th floor in what appeared to be a burglary while Saif and his family—including Kareena and their two sons, Jeh and Taimur—were inside the residence. The invader allegedly wanted Rs 1 crore, as reported by Philips.

Saif was taken to the Lilavati Hospital at about 2 in the morning on the same night he was stabbed six times, including a spinal injury. He had plastic surgery on his neck and arm in addition to fixing the leak in his spinal fluid. He received his discharge on January 21.

Attacker's arrest after a three-day manhunt

Shariful Islam, the alleged attacker, was apprehended last near Mumbai in Thane following a three-day manhunt that involved at least 20 teams from the Mumbai Police. He had entered India illegally from Bangladesh last year. Police were able to pinpoint his whereabouts after he paid for his paratha breakfast via a Google Pay transaction, according to NDTV's sources.

The Mumbai Police found multiple fingerprints at the actor's home, which they will examine. These fingerprints were located on the staircase, the toilet door, and the door handle of Jeh's room.

Shariful Islam's confession and father's support

"Haan, maine hi kiya hai (yes, I did it)" was allegedly the confession the 30-year-old confessed to two days following his detention. However, Shariful's father supported his son, asserting that his involvement in the incident was erroneous.

He stated that his son, according to the surveillance footage, never wears his hair long. He believes that someone is setting up his son. He emigrated to India from Bangladesh due to the country's political instability. His company paid him a salary and even gave him bonuses, according to Md. Ruhul Amin Fakir.
