Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo’s Vikram Pratap on working with Deepak Dobriyal: ‘It was a phenomenal experience’

Starring Dimple Kapadia, Radhika Madan, Isha Talwar and Angira Dhar, Homi Adajania’s new crime drama series is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar

“All my scenes in Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo are with Deepak Dobriyal,” says a buoyant Vikram Pratap, who is a huge admirer of the latter’s work. Last seen in the Alia Bhatt, Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah starrer dark comedy film Darlings the actor is now seen in director Homi Adajania’s much talked-about Disney+ Hotstar series - Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo - featuring Dimple Kapadia, Isha Talwar, Angira Dhar and Deepak in pivotal roles.

Sharing his experience of working with Deepak - who is best known for movies like Bholaa Bhediya, Hindi Medium, Maqbool, Tanu Weds Manu and Omkara - Vikram says, “It was lovely to work with such a great ensemble cast, particularly with Deepak Dobriyal. All my scenes are with him, and it was a phenomenal experience. I’m a huge admirer of his work, having watched Omkara several times. I feel really fortunate to work with him. He used to always praise me after every scene. We developed a great bond on the set. He is now my go-to person for any advice I need in terms of acting. He is both like my mentor and brother.”

The narrative of Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo follows an unapologetically hardcore matriarch Savitri, who is leading a family of tenacious younger women to run a hidden drug cartel in a remote village. Vikram is part of another gang of drug dealers, headed by Deepak. The crime drama series also features Naseeruddin Shah, Radhika Madan and Monica Dogra among other actors.

Speaking about his character in the series, Vikram - who is also a dialect coach - says, “It has been my most challenging role, so far. Earlier when I used to see other actors preparing for their roles before the shoot, I used to be quite unsure of that process. But after I started playing this character, I realised why you need to prepare your mind in advance for such complex characters. It was an emotionally exhausting character to narrate. It was challenging for me both mentally and physically.”
