Not only does Ajay Devgn act in Runway 34 but he has also produced and directed the niche film.
Ajay Devgn had his worst opening in Runway 34, a movie he directed and acted in. The Box Office collection for this movie is lower than even Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2, which is deemed as a disaster ever since it released. Ajay has not seen such a low Box Office opening since 2010.
Runway 34, also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh and Boman Irani in pivotal roles, has a disastrous opening day. According to reports on Box Office India, the movie has managed to earn Rs. 3 crores only. This is Ajay’s worst opening day since Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge (2010).
Ajay-directed Runway 34 is a niche film and thus, its audience is already limited. Add the fear of COVID-19 pandemic and competition from KGF: Chapter 2, to that.
Runway 34 is the Hindi remake of American film, Flight. The movie worked well in the US but since the viewers in India are a little different, it was already a huge risk that Ajay took and it is yet to pay off.
The movie is likely to witness a growth in its Box Office collection starting Saturday since this film is made for the multiplex audiences and unlike Heropanti, Runway 34 has not received backlash from everywhere.
However, Runway 34 will have to witness a strong growth from hereon. It needs to grow at least 50% on Saturday and more on Sunday to be able to sustain at the Box Office. Currently, that does appear like a possibility since the movie released on the festival of Eid, making it an extended weekend of sorts.
While currently poor at the Box Office, Runway 34 could show potential growth and thus, the film cannot be written off like Heropanti, just yet. However, the Ajay Devgn-Amitabh Bachchan starring film definitely has a lot of challenges its way, the biggest being COVID-19 fear and KGF: Chapter 2’s success.
