The show revolves around an unhappy, submissive and overworked man who has lived his entire life under his father’s thumb.
What happens when your ‘pyaar’ suddenly goes ‘faraar’ – that’s pretty much what the trailer of MX Player’s Runaway Lugai revealed recently. The series, which has Naveen Kasturia, Ruhi Singh, Sanjay Mishra and Ravi Kishan, is set to debut on May 18.
The show revolves around Rajnikant Sinha (Naveen), an unhappy, submissive and overworked man who has lived his entire life under his father’s thumb. When he meets Bulbul (Ruhi Singh), he believes his life will change for the better, but only for him to later realise that things take a turn for the worse.
On his character, Naveen says in a statement from MX Player that he finds roles like Rajni very endearing.
The Aspirants actor says that every person would have faced an incident that shakes out of a rut and motivates them. “There comes a phase in everyone's life when you are so lovestruck that you can't think straight... In Rajni’s case, it is his journey to find the runaway ‘lugaai’ that makes him want to break the mould and emerge stronger than before,” says Naveen.
Meanwhile, Ruhi explains that what made her character Bulbul exciting to play was that she was “breaking stereotypes”. Bulbul is an independent woman who is fighting patriarchy and refuses to give the reins of her life to anybody, Ruhi says. The character will make you fall in love with her or you will grow to hate her but she can't be ignored, says the model-turned-actress.
The actress says that she wanted to make the character authentic. “She's a dreamer and a fighter, fighting for her freedom and fighting against the old ways of society in a very light-hearted way. So, the show is very much like a comedy of errors, but with a message,” says Ruhi.
All 10 episodes of Runaway Lugaai can be streamed from May 18 on the digital platform.
