Bengali actresses, Rukmini Maitra and Kangana Ranaut will feature in the role of Bengali theatre actress, Nati Binodhini in their next ventures.
Kangana Ranaut on October 19, announced that she has signed up for her next film venture, which will see her play Nati Binodini, one of the legendary theatre actresses from nineteenth-century Bengal, in her biopic. The announcement has surfaced debates about possible comparisons that will be made between Kangana Ranaut and Bengali actress Rukmini Maitri who will also be playing the role of Nati Binodini in her upcoming film next year.
While reacting to the Wednesday announcement, Rukmini in an interview with Hindustan Times stated that she feels great to hear about the news. Being a Bengali herself, she feels that it's a good thing a Bengali stalwart is being recognised and given her due credit.
Rukmini unveiled her first look from the Nati Binodini biopic on September 5, 2022. Helmed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, the film is titled Binodiini-Ekti Natir Upakhyan which is set to release next year. While talking about the film, she stated that she feels proud that the country is giving due credit and recognising a Bengali woman who carved her niche in theatre and films and paved the way forward for other women.
She further stated that as both actors are playing similar roles on screen, comparisons are bound to happen but feels honoured to be compared to a senior and versatile actor like Kangana who has proved the mettle of her acting on screen with performances in films such as Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, Fashion and many more. Rukmini said that she is a fan of Kangana’s and feels confident that both actors will do complete justice to their roles.
The Kangana Ranaut starrer film will be helmed by Pradeep Sarkar. While sharing the news, Kangana expressed her excitement stating that she is a big fan of Pradeep Sarkar and feels elated to be given this opportunity. The film marks the first collaboration between Kangana and Pradeep. Kangana will start the shoot of the film early next year after wrapping up the shoot of her current venture, Emergency in which she plays former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
