The Disney+Hotstar series also features Ajay Devgn, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni and Ashwini Kalsekar
Rudra: The Edge of Darkness has been steadily raking in the views ever since it released on Disney+Hotstar on March 4, becoming the highest viewed show on the platform. The stellar performance by the lead cast has definitely been a driving force to the show’s success. One among them is Raashii Khanna. She recently opened up about her intense character, and mentioned that her compelling performance not only frightened her co-stars, but even herself.
Khanna plays the role of a sociopath named Aliyah Choksi in the series. In a conversation with The Indian Express, the actress talked about how her character was very different from the ones she has portrayed before. She said that she was able to easily ‘switch off’ from them but Aliyah was a very unorthodox character, and Khanna felt scared that she would start to become like the character and adopt the former’s mannerisms too.
The actress said that her portrayal even frightened her co-star Esha Deol and she stood away after the duo filmed a scene. Although she was ‘living’ the character, Khanna said she sometimes worried that she was overacting or portraying it wrong. She talked about how she would question her director about it, and revealed that she also got a lot of support from Ajay Devgn. Devgn also used to give Khanna, suggestions for her character. The thriller web series marks the OTT debut of both Devgn and Khanna.
The series is adapted from Idris Elba’s British series, titled Luther. Devgn essays the role of the titular protagonist in Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, and Khanna plays a sociopath who befriends the former. The series is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar.
